Website accessibility is about providing equal access to all users, regardless of ability, technology or situation. Website accessibility, contrary to popular belief, does not just affect people with visual impairments. It also addresses the needs of a much wider audience, including people with dyslexia, those with restricted upper body mobility, the hard of hearing and the elderly.
This website has been built to try and be open to as wider audience as possible, including any users with impairments, users with slow internet connections and people using handheld devices such as a mobile phone or a PDA.
The following shows keyboard shortcut commands available from the navigation bar of this site. These commands are designed to help users with difficulty in using pointing devices such as a mouse. Depending on your browser type use one of the following:
IE 5.0 and above:
Under the View menu there is the option Text sizes. Change the size as desired.
If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, you may alter the font size by holding down Ctrl on your keyboard and scrolling the wheel.
Netscape 4 and above:
Under the View menu there is the option Increase Font or Decrease Font.
Netscape 6 and above:
Under the View menu there is the option Text sizes. Change the size as desired.
When using a screenreader it is always best to make the font as small as possible. This stops the text from wrapping which allows the screenreader to read it more easily.
In the same way that language has certain rules; websites have their own "grammar". Using website code that is compliant to the W3C standards makes this a clean, error free website that is compatible with assistive technologies an impaired person may use.
